Our Product Culture
Accountable for Outcomes, Not Code
We expect each engineer to work at every layer of the technical stack, ensuring AI-generated code is scalable, secure and reliable. Beyond each of the technical layers, we also want engineers to work at the business layer, to understand the problem our software is solving. An engineer should be accountable for outcomes, not code.
Efficiency in Code, Efficiency in Our Organization
To be able to decide which products are worth building, engineers have to understand our business and how it makes money. We're as obsessed with efficiency in our organization as in our code — logically because profits fund our mission, but viscerally because shipping products and solving problems is what makes us happy.
Clear Decisions Over Consensus
We're a doer culture: all of us do the work. We make arguments in code, deliberating on irreversible decisions, and otherwise valuing speed. We favor clear decisions over consensus. If we disagree, we say so, but that also means imagining a finding that could change our minds.
Excited and Curious About the Future of Coding
Nobody knows exactly how AI coding will reshape engineering organizations over the next five years. Our team is excited and curious to find out. We love to work face to face, with likely engineering hubs in Seattle for member experience, San Francisco for the clinical platform, and New York for the claims system.
A Culture of Ideas and Respect
We're restless, opinionated, and brimming with ideas — but we treat everyone with respect; we believe great engineers come from every walk of life. We're honored by the old friends who have worked with us from company to company, but we're also eager to bring in new blood.
